At Virginia Biological Dentistry, our number one priority is your health–not just the health of your teeth and gums, but your overall health and well-being. As a holistic dental practice, we invest in the newest dental technologies to provide safer, more precise, and more comfortable care for our Glen Allen, VA area patients. Dr. Olivia Hart regularly keeps up not only with the newest research and knowledge in the field through her continued education but also with the latest in dental technology to ensure that her practice is equipped with options to restore your health and minimize recovery times. These newest technologies available at Virginia Biological Dentistry include, among others:
We’re all familiar with the uncomfortable 2D dental x-rays of the past, but they had several limitations in dental diagnostics. Because of this, 3D dental imaging units are quickly becoming the standard of care in dentistry. With Planmeca ProMax® 3D Plus at her practice, Dr. Hart can obtain a view of your entire jaw and skull. Using Planmeca ultra low dose 3D imaging
Gone are the days of living with a temporary crown for weeks on end while you wait for a dental crown to be made in a laboratory. With CEREC Primescan, we take digital impressions of your mouth with the CEREC scanner, then you wait comfortably in the office while your tooth restoration (such as a crown or bridge) is made on-site – and then we fit it and place it on the same day! There is no need to use uncomfortable putties to take impressions or have temporary restorations placed and for you to wait days before a permanent dental crown arrives and is placed.
The Fotona laser at Virginia Biological Dentistry is highly versatile and can be used in several therapies and procedures from treating gum disease and tooth decay to cosmetic treatments. Laser dentistry available at our practice enables Dr. Hart to treat or reduce negative symptoms of several dental and facial conditions such as cavities, gum diseases, sleep apnea, snoring, or face wrinkles more effectively and precisely while minimizing your pain, inflammation, and healing times.
Screening for oral cancer is an important part of every dental check-up. When caught early, oral cancer is highly treatable, but previously, dentists had to rely on visual and tactile cues to determine if patients had any suspicious lesions. At Virginia Biological Dentistry, we use a special device such as velscope during your oral cancer exam that emits a harmless light to non-invasively detect potentially cancerous spots earlier on when they are most treatable.
As research continues to demonstrate the toxic effects of mercury and metal restoration materials on the human body, patients are increasingly interested in removing their amalgam fillings and replacing them with safer materials. However, it is important that your dentist follows a safe protocol for removing amalgam fillings.
Dr. Hart uses the strict, safe mercury amalgam removal technique recommended by the International Academy of Oral Medicine and Toxicology and has invested in filter and vacuum technologies to effectively prevent the ingestion or inhalation of mercury particles while the amalgam is removed. This protocol ensures that everyone from the patient to the office staff remains safe during the mercury removal process.
With the stressful modern lives that we lead, tooth grinding and clenching (also called bruxism) are more common than ever. Many patients find that they are not getting a good night’s sleep or wake up with jaw pain, headaches, or other issues that can be hard to diagnose. If the comprehensive consultation uncovers that a patient may suffer from sleep apnea we will help in ordering a convenient and accurate home sleep test designed to assist in the diagnosis of sleep-disordered breathing that can have severe negative effects on your health. While patient enjoys the conform of his own bed, he wears the testing device while sleeping. A Board Certified Sleep Physician will then interpret the data from the sleep and patient is contacted to discuss the results and appropriate dental treatment that might include night- or day guards for grinding or an oral appliance for sleep apnea.
