How to Distinguish Authentic Biological Dentistry from Marketing Claims

The term biological dentistry is not regulated. Some dentists practice true oral–systemic, biocompatible care—while others use the term primarily for marketing. These questions may help patients separate genuine biological dentistry from biological branding.

1. What formal training do you have in biological dentistry—and is it verifiable?

Ask where the dentist trained and whether they pursue ongoing continuing education and mentorship in biological dentistry under established authorities.

Look for:

  • How long has the dentist been practicing biological dentistry? Look for at least 10 years of consistent, verifiable biological training and experience.
  • International Academy of Oral Medicine and Toxicology (IAOMT) SMART Certification

  • Even better: IAOMT Accreditation: advanced biological mastery

  • Transparent CE documentation

2. Do you perform root canal treatments?

A true biological dentist does not perform root canals, because biological dentistry prioritizes eliminating chronic sources of infection—not sealing them inside the body.

If the answer is yes, then the office is practicing conventional dentistry using biological terminology, not true biological care.

3. Do you place titanium (metal) implants?

If the answer is “yes” or “in most cases no,” ask this follow-up:

“How does placing metal implants align with your philosophy of biological or holistic dentistry?”

True biological dentists place Only ceramic (metal-free) implants. A genuine biological dentist maintains a consistent philosophy and never offers titanium implants for some patients and ceramic implants for others.

4. Do you personally place ceramic implants—or refer surgery out?

A true biological dentist skilled in ceramic implants:

  • Personally performs ceramic implant surgery

  • Uses biological protocols consistently

  • Ensures continuity from extraction → implant → ceramic restoration

Referring surgery out is a major inconsistency.

5. Which ceramic implant system do you use—and where were you trained to place it? And do you
do immediate ceramic implantation after biological extraction on the same day?

Not all ceramic implants are made the same.

Ask:

  • Which system do you use?

  • Where did you receive training? (Look for authoritative names of dental practitioners in ceramic implantology)

  • How long have you placed ceramic implants?

Not all ceramic implantations are equal:

  • Do you do the same-day ceramic implant placement immediately after biological extraction?  Skilled biological dentists often perform same-day ceramic implant placement because it preserves bone, supports natural regeneration, and aligns with whole-body healing principles.

Vague answers such as “we use ceramic implants” or we do not perform immediate ceramic implantation are warning flash lights that warrant pause and further investigation, including a second opinion.

6. What biological protocols do you use when removing infection and placing implants?

A genuine biological dentist should clearly describe:

  • Laser therapy

  • Ozone therapy

  • PRF (Platelet-Rich Fibrin)

If these are unfamiliar or “not part of their system,” caution is warranted.

7. Do you follow IAOMT SMART protocols for mercury removal—step by step?

Ask them to explain:

  • Isolation
  • Filtration
  • Protective barriers
  • Suction
  • Water control
  • Staff and Patient protection

Only a step-by-step protocol qualifies as true biological amalgam removal.

8. Is your hygienist IAOMT-certified —or do you work with a biological hygienist? What makes your hygiene appointments biologically different?

Patients see their hygienist more often than the dentist, so this matters greatly.

If not IAOMT-certified, ask: “How is your hygiene care different from conventional cleanings?”

Biological dental offices & their dentists should be able to clearly explain the use of:

  • Airflow with xylitol powder

  • Ozone gum therapy

  • Laser bacterial reduction

  • Fluoride-free protocols

If hygiene care is identical to conventional cleanings, the practice is not operating as a true biological office.

9. Do you practice biomimetic dentistry—and offer same-day conservative ceramic onlays and overlays instead of aggressive crowns?

A true biological dentist preserves as much natural tooth structure as possible.

If not, ask:

“Why would a full crown be necessary instead of a minimally invasive and conservative same-day ceramic onlay or overlay?”

10. Are you fully out-of-network with all insurance plans to be able to deliver holistic dental care—and if not, how do you practice true biological dentistry within insurance limitations?

If a dentist claims to be biological yet is “in-network with some insurance“—or “out-of-network with most insurances,” meaning they still accept certain plans—this means insurance companies continue to:

  • Limit appointment time

  • Restrict materials and protocols

  • Control what is covered and how care is delivered

These restrictions are incompatible with the extended time, individualized evaluation, and advanced biological protocols required for true biological holistic dentist.

When searching for a genuine biological dentist near me

Check if a dentist answer all ten questions clearly and consistently. If answers are vague, dismissive, still accepts some insurance,   contradictory or rely on marketing language without much to show in terms of certifications and course completed then the practice is biological in name only, not in philosophy, training, or protocol.

A true biological dentist:

  • Follows biological principles in every part of care

  • Has years of continued education and mentorship in biological dentistry

  • Uses only ceramic implants and biological protocols

  • Does not perform root canals

  • Respects oral–systemic health

  • Operates free of any insurance constraints
